Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts to the parents of professional musicians, Charles has been playing one instrument or another since the age of seven. He has studied piano, flute, bassoon and most recently guitar. A fascination with electronics and a love for music attracted Charles to the recording studio where he immediately felt at home. In 1972, he made his first studio appearance recording for high school friend Cliff Downs. At the age of eighteen, he secured his first studio job as recording engineer. Since then most of his career has been spent in commercial music. His efforts have earned him numerous awards including Addy, Telly and the coveted Clio, advertising highest honor. Charles has also developed his talents as session musician playing with such artists as Muscle Shoals guitarist and songwriter Wayne Perkins, Christian singer/songwriter Glenn Garrett, and Grammy nominated gospel artist Candi Staton. His engineering experience includes mastering a pair of albums for Johnny Sandlin and Duck Tape Music: Dixie Dreggs Live and Col Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit, as well as instructor in the recording program at Full Sail. Charles has made several appearances with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra as synthesizer soloist, as well as being the copyist for then conductor Amerigo Marino. Each year he provides the musical soundtracks for the Miss Alabama Pageant, one of the nations top rated pageants. He has served on staff of the several churches as choral director and worship leader. Charles is currently serving as Director of Worship Ministries at Clearbranch United Methodist Church. |
